Monk Took Book Guides
Dock hauls, shelf memory, belfry checkout, and the Legendary Collection.
This Guides Hub is the lookup table for Monk Took Book, the Steam PC library job from SquarePlay Games (Alastair and Sarah). The full game released on 3 September 2026. You are a novice on Holy Island, charged with completing the Legendary Collection: every book type the abbey can hold. By day you haul unique illustrated books from the dock. By night you ring the belfry, read the checkout desk, and deliver exact tomes to scribes before dawn. These pages assume you already own the game or the still-live demo. They never treat the abbey as a rumour.
The wiki is written for people who will actually run the library. That includes solo monks, 1–4 player online lobbies, players who disable beasts, and players who want Draugr in the stacks. Combat is optional. Remembering cover symbols is not. If you need a script for the first hour, start with Getting Started. If the dock already makes sense and checkout does not, use How to Play and How to Organize Books.
Who should read which guide
Confirm system requirements before you host. The client is English-only. Windows 10 or newer is required. SquarePlay lists a desktop GTX 1050 4GB as the minimum and does not support integrated GPUs. After that, pick pages by failure mode, not by pride.
Use Getting Started on night one: dock, hall, unlock a shelf site, place two books, ring the belfry, finish checkout, collect Blessings. Use Controls the first time a HUD prompt disagrees with your keyboard, mouse, controller, or Steam Deck. Use How to Play when you understand stacks but not why the Abbot paid nothing. Use How to Organize Books as soon as the HUD type counter (it can read like 90/101) starts to look like a threat instead of a score.
Longer jobs have their own doors. The walkthrough is for pacing rooms and shops after the tutorial lets go. The monastery map names geography so a taxonomy has somewhere to live. Combat covers rats, spiders, jumping spiders, rabbit archers, Draugr Grunts, Raiders, Berserkers, the Book Thief, and the Green Abbot. How to protect the collection is the fire, thief, and quill half of that job. Achievements and collection maps the 52 Steam trophies onto the tapestry. Co-op is how four people stop grabbing the same chonky volume. The review is for anyone still deciding whether a memory job with optional ghosts is the evening they wanted.
This is not a Roblox experience and this wiki does not keep a codes list. Monk Took Book is a paid Steam game with Steam Cloud, 52 achievements, public and private lobbies, Steam invites, and copy/paste join codes. The demo (app 4255310) stays live after launch and cannot join full-game lobbies because the app IDs differ. Read demo versus full before you try to mix them.
Guide map
Getting Started is the first-hour path: haul from the dock, reach the hall, spend Blessings on a shelf site, seat two books, climb the belfry, serve the desk, and get paid. It also notes that night two may skip enemy spawns while the tutorial still has you, which is easy to misread as the abbey always being this calm.
How to Play is the full day-night loop. It explains ringing the bell with unfinished desks (the game can list books served and skip the reward), destroyed books returning tattered the next day, embers, rain, and the well-and-bucket circuit.
How to Organize Books is memory, not interior design. Group by cover theme (animals, religion, food, shapes), colour, room, or shelf height. Use the hall tapestry. Respect chonky volumes and half-books. Pair it with the memory planner.
Controls is input: rebinds that update HUD prompts, first versus third person, hotbar holster, throw, place (interact plus right mouse in demo videos), hold Z to sell shelves, Y for text chat, F1 for in-game feedback, and Run on Shift.
Walkthrough stretches the same loop across more chambers. Combat is optional defence with dagger, crossbow, holy cross, torch, bucket, quill, ladders, Perfect Parry, thrown books, and Lord Fluffy. How to protect the collection is buckets, embers, footprints, and the quill. Achievements is the 52 Steam trophies and the Legendary Collection. Co-op covers proximity voice and the shorter night timer as player count rises (four-player nights run about 55 percent of solo time). Monastery map is dock, hall, belfry, crypt, shops, well, and unlockable rooms. Review is tone and audience.
When Blessings finally land, do not spend them blind. The Players Hub and Blessings explain Strength, Speed, Carpentry, tool slots, carry limit, max shelf height, run speed, faster run recovery (about 30 Blessings in the demo), and the torch perk that reduces ember chance. Rank purchases with the Tier List Hub, perk ranks, and weapon ranks. Check the Updates Hub for launch and patch notes so a rebind or book-size change does not surprise you mid-haul.
Using the wiki without wrecking a night
Pin this hub for links. During day you only need a haul habit and one shelf rule. During night you need the checkout rule and, if parchment is glowing, a bucket. If spiders are the problem, open Combat or turn on Arachnophobia mode and the enemy sliders in settings. If the party is the problem, read co-op and solo versus co-op instead of shouting across the nave.
Official storefront pointers live under official links in the Links Hub. Keep the Tools Hub on a second monitor: requirements, settings, memory planner. Do not paste someone else’s pretty bay into your first night just because a screenshot looks monastic. Copy the loop: haul, place, ring, fetch, get paid, spend. The other guides exist to keep that loop intact when the dock pile is taller than your memory and Vespers is already on the HUD.
Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers for novices tending the Holy Island library.
Which guide should I open first?
Use Getting Started for the dock-to-checkout hour, then How to Play once you need the full loop.
Do I have to fight to finish the library?
No. Combat is optional. Settings can reduce, increase, or disable enemies, pests, and fires, and Arachnophobia mode replaces spider models with moving text.
Why did the Abbot pay me nothing?
How to Play covers ringing the belfry with unfinished desks: the game can list books served and skip the Blessings reward.
Can demo players join a full-game lobby?
No. Demo app 4255310 stays live after launch but cannot join purchased lobbies. See demo versus full.
Where should first Blessings go?
Read Blessings and the perk tier list before you buy height you cannot reach or a weapon you will not holster.
