Game overview

What Monk Took Book actually asks of you

Candlelit monastic library hall with tall shelves, a ladder, and the night HUD.

Monk Took Book is SquarePlay Games' cozy-creepy action-memory sim, launched on Steam on 3 September 2026. You play a novice on Holy Island, home of a legendary monastic library. Every morning unique illustrated books arrive at the dock. You carry them uphill, unlock shelf sites with Blessings, and invent a filing system you can still recall after dark. Night is the exam: ring the belfry, read the checkout desk, and deliver the exact tomes the scribes request before dawn. Optional vermin, Viking ghosts, and a book thief can wreck the collection unless you fight, dodge, or turn them off in settings. Start with the getting started guide, learn the day-night loop, then spend currency using the perk tier list.

Novice checklist

Five practical steps from the dock to a working library.

  1. 1

    Arrive on Holy Island

Buy Monk Took Book on Steam or try the still-live demo first. The demo cannot join full-game lobbies. Read system requirements before you host.

  2. 2

    Haul the morning delivery

Books spawn at the dock with unique cover symbols and no titles. Carry stacks uphill into the main hall using the controls and the getting started checklist.

  3. 3

Invent a shelf system you can recall

Spend Blessings on shelf sites, then group covers by theme, colour, or room. The organization guide and memory planner exist because night will test you.

  4. 4

Ring the belfry and run the night shift

When shelves are set, ring the bell, read the checkout desk, and deliver exact tomes before dawn. Follow the how to play loop and the walkthrough.

  5. 5

    Spend Blessings, then invite brethren

Pray in the crypt for Strength, Speed, and Carpentry, or unlock rooms. Compare perk ranks and host with co-op roles.

FAQ

Wiki FAQ

Quick answers for novices tending the Holy Island library.

Where should a new player start?

Follow the getting started guide, then learn the day-night loop before you spend a pile of Blessings.

Is Monk Took Book a Roblox game?

No. It is a paid PC game by SquarePlay Games on Steam, released 3 September 2026. It is a 1–4 player online co-op library sim, not a Roblox experience.

Can I play without combat?

Yes. Game options let you reduce, increase, or disable enemies, pests, and fires. Arachnophobia mode replaces spider models with text.

Which languages are supported?

This wiki is in English, French, German, and Spanish. The game itself ships with English interface and full audio only.

Does the free demo connect to the full game?

No. The demo (Steam app 4255310) stays live after launch, but it cannot join purchased-game lobbies because the app IDs differ. See demo vs full.

How do Blessings work?

The Abbot pays Blessings for completed night orders, with a speed bonus for finishing early. Spend them on perks, taller shelves, tools, and new chambers.

How do I stop fire and the Book Thief?

Use a bucket from the well, follow green footprints, and repair with the quill. The protect the collection guide covers that loop; enemy ranks say what to fear first.

Ready to tend the collection?

Read the getting started guide, plan a shelf system, then check launch notes before you host a lobby.
